
Yaounde, Cameroon: The Queen’s Baton arrived in Delhi in 2010 to Cameroon on Monday and was treated to a spectacular three-hour drive through the lush forests of the country’s largest city, Douala and the capital of a cavalcade led by a police spotter entire 240km journey.
Cameroon Commonwealth Games Council President Mr. Hamad Kalkaba Malboum and his colleagues got the baton in the CCGC office upon arrival. Commonwealth Games Federation Vice President (Africa) Mr. Abdoulie M Touray handed over formally in the presence of a number of media persons.
Earlier, in the western port city of Douala, Governor of the Littoral Region Mr Fai Yengo Francis, Cameroon Commonwealth Games Council Vice President Mr. Teningen Mongwa and Consul General of India in Cameroon, Mr J Ravi Kumar got the baton arrival from Nigeria.
Mr. Francis said he was glad to welcome it to the ground by the athletes. Home to the Indomitable Lions – the Cameroon football team is known throughout the world – Cameroon have won nine gold, five silver and seven bronze medals over the last three editions of th Commonwealth Games.
Earlier, in Lagos, Nigeria, Commonwealth Games Council General Secretary, Mr Olabanji Oladapo and other cutting torch which went to Cameroon. The baton, which has now completed a 20,799 kilometers long journey as part of their international travel 170,000 kilometers, will be part of a community relay on Tuesday
