LONDON Commonwealth Games England President Dame Kelly Holmes says Great Britain top athletes are being “premature” in the rejection of chances to fight for the gold at the Commonwealth Games 2010 Delhi in October next. The Commonwealth Games are as important as the Olympics in some sports.
Holmes, now 39, considering the game as a stepping stone to the Olympics throughout her career. “You should not just throw the possibility of a medal,” she told Daily Telegraph. “You never know when you might be injured or not, and it should be part of a plan with the coach, and then wait and see.”
Holmes, who won gold in 1500 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester, said: “Well, if he does not fit into an athlete` S plans with his schedule. But do not put it down as an insignificant event, because some sports are their commonwealth Olympics .
“Swimming and cycling are important in the mass, as they are the largest opposition Australia. If they want to show progress, they must compete in Delhi.”
